Small Shelter & Rescue, helping people with specialist exotic pets. Started in July 2022 we are a public animal shelter for the Northwest of England - providing animal shelter, pet shop and pet care clinic services.
- Rescue: They respond to situations where exotic animals are in need of assistance, whether due to abandonment, illegal trade, cruelty, or because they have become lost or injured.
- Rehabilitation: Once rescued, exotic animals often require specialised care to recover from trauma, neglect, or injury. The shelter provides veterinary care, appropriate nutrition, and rehabilitation services to help the animals regain their health.
- Rehome: When possible, the shelter will try to find suitable adoptive homes for animals that are capable of living safely and comfortably in a domestic environment. They facilitate the adoption process and ensure potential owners are prepared and equipped to take care of an exotic pet.
Invertebrates make up over 97% of all animal species on Earth, yet they are often the most overlooked when it comes to welfare, protection, and conservation laws. From spiders and scorpions to beetles, snails, and centipedes, these incredible creatures play vital roles in maintaining healthy ecosystems. They pollinate plants, recycle nutrients, and form the foundation of countless food chains, yet they remain unprotected by most animal welfare legislation and are too often treated as disposable or insignificant.
The “Inverts Need Protecting As Well” Space exists to change that. Here, donors, advocates, and experts unite to raise awareness about the importance of invertebrate welfare and to push for greater legal recognition and care standards. We share research, success stories, care updates, and policy developments, all aimed at ensuring that invertebrates receive the same compassion and protection afforded to vertebrates.
Join us in standing up for the smallest and most misunderstood members of the animal kingdom. Together, we can show the world that size doesn’t determine worth.

Want to donate an item to us, like enclosures or heating equipment? Talk about it here.
We believe inverts need the same protection and treatment as any other pet in the pet trade. Let's talk about it and make a change.
